Educational Goals and Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

• Explain the potential benefits of short-course antibiotic therapy and list 3 infections for which short-course therapy with fluoroquinolones is approved.
• Describe 3 adverse effects of fluoroquinolones and 1 risk factor for each adverse effect.
• Describe the concerns regarding use of fluoroquinolones in children and provide 2 indications where the benefit of these drugs may outweigh their risks.
• Counsel a patient with a new fluoroquinolone prescription as to proper administration, common side effects, and unusual effects requiring contact with their prescriber.
